Mentoring For Academic Success

Since 1999, Mentoring for Academic Success (MAS) has served under-represented students through tutoring, enrichment and communication with teachers and families.  We strive to assist students in academic proficiency and in becoming competitively eligible for post-secondary education.

In the 2009-2010 school year, MAS serves up to 25 students at its West Berkeley site hosted by Black Pine Circle Elementary School.

Besides tutoring, we offer enrichment meetings for parents: special speakers make presentations about academic motivation, communication skills, university-readiness, and more.

In addition to school-year tutoring and mentoring, Mentoring for Academic Success offers a summer Youth Writing Festival giving elementary through high-school students an exceptional opportunity to build literacy skills.

MAS staff includes the Program Director, Suzanne Plank and a strong corps of tutors.  Many tutors at our West Berkeley site work through UC Berkeley's Bears United in Literacy Development Program (BUILD).

Parents, click here to find out more or to register your child in an after-school tutorial program.  For more information contact Program Director Suzanne Plank (suzanne@mionline.org, 510-848-4075). The registration fee for MAS is $100. This fee covers the entire 2009-2010 school year and can be pro-rated for those registering for the second half of the year.
